BTSCF Newsletter - April 2024

Just like that the weather is heating up and so is the list of things going on at BTSCF. Check out this month’s events!

Midnight Madness

We would like to congratulate everyone who tackled The Jim Faggione Midnight Madness Endurance Relay on April 20-21. It was such a great event for an even greater cause. All proceeds from the race went to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and The Outdoor Club of Port Jervis. Through this race, money and awareness for suicide prevention was raised. To learn more about Jim Faggione Jr and the race, please visit the Midnight Madness website.

Delaware River Run 5K

The 30th Delaware River Run 5K will be on Sunday, 5/5. BTSCF is a proud sponsor of this race and we are looking forward to seeing all of the runners go past our building. The workout of the day will be a 5K, so we encourage everyone to sign up. There will be no classes on Sunday, May 5.

Family Day

We invite everyone to bring their family and friends on May 12 and June 16 for Family Day. We are looking forward to a fun day of workouts with family!

Murph

Each Memorial Day, we complete the Hero Workout “Murph” to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. “Murph” is dedicated to LT. Michael P. Murphy (SEAL) who lost his life on June 28, 2005 in Afghanistan. The workout consists of a 1 Mile Run, 100 Pull Ups, 200 Push Ups, 300 Squats and another 1 Mile Run.

On Memorial Day, we will run heats at 8, 9, and 10am with a BBQ to follow the last heat.

Bring A Friend Week

On June 3, we will be kicking off Bring A Friend Week. From June 3-9, bring your friends and family as many times as they would like to workout with or without you. We love sharing CrossFit and what we do, and we would love for you to bring your friends and family in!

Save The Date

Sunday, June 23 from 9am - 1pm. Deadlifts. Pizza. BBQ. More details to follow.

BTSCF Feature Athlete

Meet Lisa Richard

When did you start CrossFitting?

I started at BTS in June of 2018

What brought you to CrossFit?

My rowing gym closed and I wanted to continue working out as it had been 7 years since I'd had a consistent physical discipline.

What have you learned from doing CrossFit?

I've learned that my physical strength means nothing without my mental strength.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about starting CrossFit?

It costs you nothing to try and what ever physical limitations you have, there will always be movements to build your strength.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Take care of the ones I love.

What do you do for work and how has CrossFit impacted how you do your job?

My job is 24/7 I am a mother of an amazing teenager and he is the reason I wanted to get back in shape.

We threw some lightning round questions at Lisa, here is what she had to say:

Q: What super power would you give yourself?

A: The ability to keep Congress off women's bodies.

Q: What's your favorite healthy food?

A: Anything Green, I crave color when I'm hungry

Q: What's your favorite not so healthy food?

A: Whiskey, just kidding Boom Chicka Pop Kettle Corn

Q: What TV Sitcom family or group would you be a member of?

A: Anthony Bourdain's travel show Parts Unknown

Q: If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

A: Achieving equal pay for women

Q: If you could write your own fortune cookie fortune, what would it say?

A: Live and let live

Q: If you were a professional wrestler, what would you finishing move be called?

A: I'd probably just hug you to death

Q: Who do you look up to for inspiration at BTSCF?

A: Honestly everyone, I adore my coaches and know I wouldn't be where I am without them, however all the members whether I work out with them or not constantly inspire me to work hard, push myself and show up. And a special shout out to Becky, my first day she came up to me and made me feel so welcomed and a part of the group and that meant everything because one of my biggest fears about going was that I didn't belong in a gym like that.

Q: What is your favorite and least favorite movement?

A: Deadlifts are one of my favorites and Snatches are my least favorite only because they are elusive to me.

Q: What is the one thing you've done at BTSCF that your old self wouldn't ever believe?

A: Consistently move forward even when it feels like I'm standing still.

Q: Anything else you want to share?

A: BTS is a lifeline for me and I'd be lost wit my 8:15's. The love and support they give on the daily is life changing.
