BTSCF Newsletter - November 2023

Every day we have the opportunity to find many things we can be grateful for. At BTSCF, we are thankful every day to be able to be a part of so many people’s lives. Check out what’s happening at Burn The Ships CrossFit…

Chad 1000X & The Step Up Foundation

On Veterans Day we came together to complete the Hero Workout Chad. Thanks to everyone who came in and the generous added contributions which helped us raise $502 to donate to the Step Up Foundation.

Suicide is a topic that isn’t discussed enough. The Step Up Foundation is working to change that, especially as it relates to our veterans.

Annual Food Drive

Thank you so much for helping us by donating so many food items during our food drive. We are so blown away by your generosity and without you we wouldn’t have been able to help the Salvation Army of Port Jervis the way we did.  Combined with the help from our sponsors, we are so happy to have been able to help those in our local community.

The Deck

You never quite know what is coming at you when you take on The Deck. This is one of our favorite traditions every Thanksgiving. Thank you to everyone who came to work out together.

Feature Athlete

Meet Becky Lyon

When did you start CrossFitting?

2019

If different, when did you start at BTSCF?

2022

What brought you to CrossFit?

I wanted to get fit after having my third and final child.

What have you learned from doing CrossFit?

I'm a lot stronger than I could have ever imagined.... mentally and physically.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about starting CrossFit?

I was on the fence for years before trying CrossFit. I was convinced it would be far too difficult. All the negative thoughts. Once I began..... I realized I didn't actually suck. I was actually pretty good at certain things. The best part is the community. It is so inspiring to spend time with like minded people who have the same goal.... to become a better version of yourself.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I play in a few softball leagues. I am an artist so in some way I have to always keep my creative juices flowing. Making Tie Dye for example.... shout out BECKY'S HANDMADE.

What do you do for work and how has CrossFit impacted how you do your job?

I wear many hats..... but my main job is being a mother of three! CrossFit has given me so much but in terms of helping me mother.... I can carry all the groceries in the house. One shot.

My greatest takeaway is my children being proud of me. Nothing better than hearing my six year old son say "Mommy,  you are the strongest Mommy in the world".  My daughter can't wait until she can join!

We asked Becky some lightning round questions, here is what she had to say:

Q: What super power would you give yourself?

A: Freeze Time

Q: What's your favorite healthy food?

A: Arugula/Salad

Q: What's your favorite not so healthy food?

A: Italian

Q: What TV Sitcom family or group would you be a member of?

A: Shameless

Q: If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

A: My charming personality.

Q: If you could write your own fortune cookie fortune, what would it say?

A: Tomorrow may never come. Enjoy your day.

Q: If you were a professional wrestler, what would you finishing move be called?

A: I actually always dreamt of this career when I was young. I'd say.... "drop it like it's hot"

Q: Who do you look up to for inspiration at BTSCF?

A: ALL of the Coaches!!!! Thanks for loving me and keeping me safe!!!

Q: What is your favorite and least favorite movement?

A: Snatches are my Fav....Toes to Bar I loathe....

Q: What is the one thing you've done at BTSCF that your old self wouldn't ever believe?

A: A real push up.... now I can do several.

Q: Anything else you'd like to share?

A: CrossFit has been my saving grace during some of the most difficult times in my life. The reason I do CrossFit is 100% for my mental health. The physical stuff is just a bonus.
