BTSCF Newsletter - June 2023

As we dive headfirst into the summer season, we are hoping that everyone has the opportunity to get outside and use their fitness for fun. Check out BTSCF this month!

The Port Jervis Soap Box Derby

Volunteering at the soap box derby was another awesome experience. Being part of this great community event as the young racers enjoyed their thrilling descent down the track was rewarding and fun. This is the second year that we were a part of the derby. The day was filled with BTSCF athletes at the top and bottom of the hill lifting and moving cars. Thank you to the PJ Soap Box Derby crew for inviting us to be a part of the day and thank you to all of our athletes who spent the day helping out. We cannot wait for next year!

Independence Day Hours

We will be open with classes at 8am, 9am, and 10am on July 4th. Join us as we take on the hero workout, “Loredo.”

When did you start CrossFitting?

October 2020 at BTSCF

What brought you to CrossFit?

A global pandemic. I needed to stop binge-watching tv.

What have you learned from doing CrossFit?

I have learned that my body is stronger and more capable than I give it credit for.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about starting CrossFit?

It's a little bit crazy but a whole lot of fun. Just try it.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love spending time with my husband and daughters. I also appreciate time with good company and a good meal.

What do you do for work and how has CrossFit impacted how you do your job?

I am a Resource Coordinator and Spiritual Director for The Salvation Army. If I can overcome some physically exhausting work at the gym, I can overcome my fear of public speaking for events.

We asked Joanna some rapid fire questions, here’s what she had to say:

Q: What super power would you give yourself?

A: Invisibility

Q: What's your favorite healthy food?

A: Watermelon

Q: What's your favorite not so healthy food?

A: Tacos

Q: What TV Sitcom family or group would you be a member of?

A: The Golden Girls

Q: If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

A: I suppose my superpower of invisibility

Q: If you could write your own fortune cookie fortune, what would it say?

A: Root yourself in what you love, and there you will grow.

Q: If you were a professional wrestler, what would you finishing move be called?

A: The Busta'- unexpecting throw down (I know nothing about wrestling except for the Rock....because it's the Rock.)

Q: Who do you look up to for inspiration at BTSCF?

A: I'm motivated by the 6:30 crew. I'm driven by my coaches. I'm inspired by those who push to do better.

Q: What is your favorite and least favorite movement?

A: My favorite movement is anything on the bars. Hands down least favorite...the bike!

Q: What is the one thing you've done at BTSCF that your old self wouldn't ever believe?

A: I finally learned to climb the rope. Growing up, I always hated never being able to do it in gym class.
