Just Do Something...Right Now
It’s hard to believe that the end of January is already here. One month gone out of a whole year may not sound like much time, right? That’s about 8% of the year that has now passed and for many, now is the time where they are already giving up on their New Year’s resolution.
For those who have made the resolution to lose weight, get healthier, or eat better the end of January marks an important point.
You may have spent the month exercising more and eating better. Maybe you have already started seeing some results. Congratulations! That’s one month in the books. It’s a victory. You’re halfway to two months and guess what? February is a short month, so you’ll be into March before you know it. Keep up the great work!
Others may not have gotten started yet. Maybe that’s you? Have you searched the internet for exercise or running plans? Perhaps you’ve purchased a new cookbook or diet book? Then for some reason that voice in the back of your head says it’s ok to have that last binge meal, you’ll get started tomorrow. That exercise plan you were excited about finding? You tell yourself you’ll begin next week.
Let me tell you a secret: It’s ok, and everyone has been in the exact same place you are in now. The choices you made yesterday are just that; they are in the past. What matters are the choices you make right now. Your future choices? My suggestion is don’t even worry about those. When you get to them, they will become your “right now.” So just focus on right now.
Want to lose weight or get healthier? Make the choice to do something toward that goal right now. Go for a walk, hit the gym, do push-ups in your living room. Just do something. You can do it. Make that choice right now.
The beginning of the song “This Is Now” by Hatebreed sums this up perfectly:
“Another memory and I'm asking myself,
Why can't I let the past be the past?
Once and for all take a hold of the future
And not let it control what I aspire to have.
I see where my decisions have brought me.
What's done is done and it’s time to start again.
Can't let it tear me in two or waste me away.
I gotta believe.
‘Cause this is now.
How can I change tomorrow if I can't change today?
This is now.
If I control myself, I control my destiny.”
Change today. Just do something…right now.
